Round of 16 – 2007 FIFA World Cup

Talk about exciting!  Three of the first four Round of 16 soccer matches at the 2007 U20 World Cup required over-time to decide who would advance to the quarter-final round.

  • An own goal in the 89th minute allowed the USA to force their game with Uruguay into overtime.  The USA scored in OT to edge Uruguay 2-1.
  • The Czech Republic and Japan were tied 2-2 after overtime and the Czechs won on penalty kicks 4-3.
  • Austria edged Gambia 2-1 with the winning goal scored in the 82nd minute.
